"This Scientific Letter discusses how the blue economy can inform Canada’s security and defence at home, focusing specifically on the implications of a greater RCN presence in the Arctic. First, Canada, as a maritime nation, has adopted a series of policies that compose its ocean strategy. While Canada still lacks a blue economy strategy, existing policies promote some of the principles key to sustainable economic growth in the maritime environment. Second, the new defence policy mandates the CAF and the RCN to protect Canada’s waters inthe face of environmental changes and resulting increase in human activities"--page 2.
