Addressing cold climate challenges for offshore energy systems : a review of relevant literature and gap analysis for Atlantic Canada / prepared by: Kaniz Sultana, Ryan Kilpatrick.: M154-192/2025E-PDF
"This research addresses these challenges by investigating two primary types of icing risks that can affect offshore structures: atmospheric icing and sea spray icing. Although decades of study have been devoted to this subject, many key parameters and associated physics remain insufficiently understood. To characterize these knowledge gaps, a comprehensive literature review is conducted to provide a detailed analysis of icing phenomena, and the complex interplay among meteorological, oceanic, and structural factors. Additionally, the effectiveness of available empirical, semi-empirical, and numerical models in predicting icing events is evaluated, highlighting the necessity of field measurements for more accurate risk assessments"--Executive summary, page ii.
