"The aftermath of wildfires often brings financial hardship and emotional distress, including a deep sense of loss tied to environmental destruction and cultural disconnection (Public Safety Canada (PSC), 2024; Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), 2024). Wildfires can disrupt traditional ways of life, cultural practices and access to traditional activities such as hunting, fishing, trapping and gathering. Despite being the original stewards of the land, Indigenous Peoples have historically been excluded from decision making in forest management in Canada.
