Structural challenges in Canada's beef and pork supply chains : toward greater food sovereignty : report of the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food / Michael Coteau, chair. : XC12-1/1-451-3E-PDF
"The House of Commons Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food presented to the House a report entitled "Structural Challenges in Canada's Beef and Pork Supply Chains: Towards Greater Food Sovereignty." Drawing on testimony from 14 witnesses, including beef and pork producers, processors, and industry representatives, the report identifies persistent challenges faced by these sectors and sets out seven recommendations to the Government of Canada to address them. These include introducing mandatory beef and pork price reporting to provide producers with more transparent data on how Canadian buyers set prices, updating its Specified Risk Material regulations to account for the country's reduced risk of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy, and increasing support for small and medium sized slaughter facilities. The Committee believes these changes will improve the resilience of the beef and pork supply chains and the long-term sustainability of the Canadian meat industry, which is essential to the country's food security"--Supplied from publisher.
